Are students required to be vaccinated for COVID-19?

Yes. On August 23, 2021, the FDA approved the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for individuals 16 years of age and older. New Roads requires all eligible students 16 years of age and older to be vaccinated against COVID-19 (click here for the full policy). Students who are not yet fully vaccinated must comply with the following requirements:

  1. Receive the first dose by Thursday, October 7, 2021.
  2. Upload their vaccine card (in accordance with Requirement 2 for Vaccinated Students, above) showing they have received at least their first dose, by Monday October 11, 2021.
  3. Receive the second dose by October 29, 2021, and upload their vaccine card showing they have received both doses by November 1, 2021.
What happens if my child is 16 years of age or older, does not have an approved exemption or accommodation on file, and does not get the vaccinated?

Eligible students who have not been vaccinated and who do not have an approved exemption or accommodation on file will not be able to continue attending school on campus and participating in off-site school activities.

Is New Roads requiring eligible students ages 12-15 to be COVID-19 vaccinated?

Upon full FDA approval, New Roads will require all students who are eligible to be fully vaccinated. All students will have to either provide proof of being fully vaccinated or request a qualifying exemption.  Additionally, we are strongly recommending that all eligible students and adults sharing homes with our community members be vaccinated for COVID-19 now and are requesting that families inform us of their students’ vaccination status. 

Are employees required to be vaccinated for COVID-19?

Yes. New Roads Faculty and Staff are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19, unless they have an approved exemption or accommodation on  

What are the vaccination metrics for New Roads’ Community?

The metrics below represent the COVID-19 vaccination rates as of September 22, 2021. The vaccination metrics below reflect the number of fully and partially COVID-19 vaccinated individuals. Partially vaccinated are those having received at least one dose of a two series.

New Roads has engaged Dr. Rekha Murthy MD (Professor of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, Cedars-Sinai; Professor of Clinical Medicine, UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine) as a consultant regarding the COVID-19 vaccination. New Roads is thrilled to have Dr. Rekha attend the following townhalls to answer questions regarding the COVID-19 Vaccine:
