Exposure and Notification Process

Does the school inform the community regarding on-campus positive COVID-19 cases and exposure?

Yes. Confirmed COVID-19 positive cases or exposure(s) will be communicated to our community in the following order:

1) Inform the positive case and/or provide quarantine/isolation instructions
2) Inform the close contacts and provide next steps instructions
3) Email all families in the division that it impacts (and all faculty/staff schoolwide)

Note: Names of individuals will not be included to protect the individual’s privacy. However, the email will identify the grade level and whether the positive case is a faculty/staff member or student.

What do I do if my child /I have been or suspect that I’ve been exposed?

All known positive cases or potential exposure must be reported to Brae Casillas and Ryan Hawley as soon as possible. All positive or exposed individuals will receive an email that will include the following information:

Positive COVID-19 Cases:
All students AND staff that test positive for COVID-19 must stay home until:
  • At least 10 days* have passed since symptoms first started and
  • No fever is present for at least 24 hours (without the use of medicine that reduces fevers) and
  • All symptoms have improved
*If symptoms don't develop, the student or staff must stay home for 10 days after the positive COVID-19 test was taken. If symptoms do develop, all positive students or staff must follow the isolation instructions issued by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

COVID-19 Exposure:
All students and staff that have been identified as an exposure (within 6 feet of the infected person for 15 minutes or more in a 24-hour period, or had unprotected contact with the infected person’s secretions, for example, being coughed or sneezed on, sharing utensils or saliva, or providing care without using appropriate protective equipment) to a positive COVID-19 case will be notified.
  • Persons with an exposure who are fully vaccinated and have no symptoms are exempt from quarantining but should get tested and monitor their health for symptoms of COVID-19 for 14 days after their last contact with the infected person.
  • Persons who have recovered from laboratory confirmed COVID-19 within the last 90 days are exempt from quarantining or testing for COVID-19. However, these individuals should monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 for 14 days following an exposure.
If you do not meet the quarantine exemption above, please begin to self-quarantine away from others and monitor symptoms for 10 days after your last exposure to the infected person. If you remain asymptomatic, quarantine can end after Day 10 from the last date of exposure without testing, but you must continue to monitor your health and adhere to COVID-19 prevention precautions through Day 14. Quarantine may end after Day 7 if you remain asymptomatic AND if a diagnostic specimen is collected after Day 5 from the date of last exposure and the result is negative, but you must continue to monitor your health and adhere to COVID-19 prevention precautions through Day 14.

See Home Quarantine Guidance (www.publichealth.lacounty.gov/acd/ncorona 2019/covidquarantine/). Symptoms of COVID-19 may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus and may include one of more of the following: fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, and/or new loss of taste or smell. Note this list does not include all possible symptoms of COVID-19.

All persons (except as described in the previous paragraph) with an exposure should get tested, whether you have symptoms or not. Even if you test negative during your quarantine period, you will still need to complete the full quarantine period. Testing resources may include: Personal Healthcare Providers, Employee Health Services or Occupational Health Services, Student Health Center, Community Testing Sites: covid19.lacounty.gov/testing. Individuals who need assistance finding a medical provider, can call the Los Angeles County Information line 2-1-1, which is available 24/7.

If you develop symptoms consistent with COVID-19 you should begin self-isolation. See Home Isolation Instructions (www.publichealth.lacounty.gov/acd/ncorona 2019/covidisolation/). If your symptoms become severe, seek medical advice for further guidance.
