• Division Representatives - ES/MS/US

  Mission statement: Division Representatives serve as vital liaisons between families, school administration, and Parent Village leadership across all grade levels. The mission of Division Representatives is to foster clear and timely communication, strengthen community connections, and support school-wide initiatives rooted in the values of inclusivity, equity, kindness, and integrity. By welcoming new families, actively listening to community needs, and encouraging parent involvement, Division Representatives create a collaborative and supportive environment that enhances the educational experience and sense of belonging for students, families, faculty, and staff throughout the entire New Roads community.

   

  Each grade also nominates Grade Representatives (or Room Parents for ES) in the spring for the following school year, who meet with Division Reps at least monthly. New parents/guardians who want to serve in this role are encouraged to introduce themselves to Division Reps at the beginning of the school year and could be eligible to serve right away.

   

  K-5 grades are unique in the ways parents are very hands on in the classroom with the teachers and administrators. Nominations and selection is therefore managed by the ES administration as it is intertwined with the pedagogy and ethos of each classroom.

• New Roads Fund

  Mission statement: The New Roads Fund Committee plays a vital role in the school’s annual fundraising outreach, partnering with the Advancement Director, the Board of Trustees, school leadership, and fellow parents to support the school’s financial health. The New Roads Fund contributes directly to operating expenses, making an immediate impact on the day-to-day experience of every student. The New Roads Fund Committee serves as liaisons between the parent community and the school, helping to ensure that fundraising efforts reflect the school’s core values of inclusivity, equity, kindness, and integrity. Through volunteer opportunities, thoughtful outreach, and community-building, the committee fosters meaningful relationships and encourages broad parent participation in sustaining and advancing New Roads' mission. 

   

  Parent volunteer opportunities include: 

  • Fundraising mailer assembly: Assist the development department in assembling vital marketing materials that educate parents about the New Roads Fund. 
  • Fund kick-off celebration: A high-energy event where volunteers help engage the parent community, bringing visibility to the New Roads Fund and creating a dynamic start to the fundraising season. 
  • Class/grade level captains: Supports communication within each class/grade to encourage strong participation in the New Roads Fund.  
  • New Roads Fund-a-thon: A coordinated outreach effort where volunteers connect directly with families through calls, texts and thank you notes to inspire support for the New Roads Fund. 

• Kaleidoscope

  Mission statement: The Kaleidoscope Committee leads the planning and execution of New Roads’ largest annual fundraising event, a vibrant and high-energy celebration that brings the entire community together in support of the school’s mission. More than just a gala, Kaleidoscope is a joyful expression of New Roads’ spirit, where families, faculty, alumni, and friends gather to build connections and raise vital funds that sustain and strengthen school programs. The committee works closely with school leadership to shape an unforgettable evening, from curating the experience to securing auction items and other essential resources. The Kaleidoscope Committee ensures that Kaleidoscope is both a meaningful fundraiser and a powerful reflection of the values, diversity, and vibrancy of the New Roads community.

   

  Parent volunteer opportunities include: 

  • Planning: Collaborate with the Advancement Director to brainstorm themes, decor, entertainment and other creative aspects that bring Kaleidoscope to life. 
  • Event execution: Support the event on the day by helping with set up, guest check-in and creating a warm welcome for all.
  • Auction support: Assist Advancement Director with sourcing and organizing auction items for both live and online bidding.

• Friendraising

  Mission statement: The Friend-Raising Committee cultivates community, connection, and joy among New Roads families by supporting interest-based social clubs and inclusive gatherings for New Roads parents and guardians. Through welcoming and low-pressure events, the Friend-Raising Committee creates meaningful opportunities for parents to make lasting friendships, build authentic relationships, and strengthen the bonds that enrich our diverse and vibrant school community. Aligned with New Roads’ mission to foster curiosity, engagement, and inclusive belonging, the committee inspires families to participate fully in school life and contribute to a supportive and connected village.

   

  Parent volunteer opportunities include: 

  • Host a club: Create and lead a social club that embodies the vibrancy and authentic connections that define the New Roads parent community.

• Teacher Appreciation

  Mission statement: The Teacher Appreciation Committee works in partnership with families to recognize and celebrate the dedication, care, and impact of New Roads faculty. Guided by the school’s values of equity, inclusion, and community, the committee creates accessible and heartfelt opportunities for parents and caregivers to show their support. Centered around National Teacher Appreciation Week, and with touchpoints throughout the year, the Teacher Appreciation Committee helps foster a culture of gratitude that uplifts teachers and honors the essential role they play in the life of the school.
  
  

  Parent volunteer opportunities include: 

  • Fall gratitude day activations: Collect expressions of gratitude (video, written, etc.). from students and parents and deliver to or exhibit for teachers and staff
  • Holiday gift collection and distribution: Collect monetary contributions from parents and distribute prepaid cards and ecards as directed by the administration to full-time and part-time teachers, administration, the security team, facilities and all staff members of the New Roads community.
  • Teacher appreciation week: Support the creation of heartfelt and meaningful expressions of gratitude enjoyed by teachers, administration, the security team, facilities and all staff members of the New Roads community.

• New Family Welcome

  Mission statement: The New Family Welcome Committee partners with Admissions, faculty, and current families to support a smooth and welcoming transition for new families joining the New Roads community. Whether entering at major intake points or in other grades, the committee helps ensure that every new family feels informed, connected, and embraced from the start. By fostering relationships, sharing resources, and offering peer-to-peer support, the New Family Welcome Committee plays a vital role in helping new families navigate their first year and build meaningful connections within the school community.

   

  Parent volunteer opportunities include: 

  • Host a family: Serve as a warm and welcoming connection to new families joining New Roads by offering guidance on everything from navigating MyRoads to understanding school traditions like All-School Picnic. 
  • Event representative: Serve as a parent ambassador at events such as the New Parent Welcome and Admissions Fairs, answering questions and offering insight to new and prospective families.
  • Welcome gift packing: Help in assembling welcome gifts and informational materials that introduce new families to the New Roads community.

• Civic Engagement

  Mission statement: The Civic Engagement Committee partners with students to cultivate leadership rooted in empathy, purpose, and active citizenship. Committee members collaborate with nonprofit organizations to identify, source, and coordinate volunteer opportunities that allow students to engage meaningfully with the broader Los Angeles community. Through thoughtfully designed service learning experiences, both on and off campus, students engage with real world issues in ways that are meaningful and aligned with their passions. This work deepens students' understanding of diversity, social justice, and environmental sustainability, encouraging lasting impact through reflection, connection, and action.

   

  Parent volunteer opportunities include: 

  • Participation in community service opportunities alongside students
  • Parent provided transportation: Provide transportation for students to and from volunteer civic engagement activities.

• Environmental Sustainability 

  Mission statement: The Environmental Sustainability Committee supports a culture of environmental awareness and action across the New Roads community. By empowering students, faculty, and families, the committee helps guide sustainable practices through campus-wide initiatives such as Earth Week celebrations, student-led Green Team projects, and eco-conscious event protocols. Anchored in New Roads’ mission to prepare young people to “become conscientious decision makers who consider the well-being of the community with respect to equity, social justice, and ecological stewardship,” and rooted in the principles of the 5 R’s (reduce, reuse, recycle, repair, and regrow), the Environmental Sustainability Committee strives to elevate sustainability awareness into meaningful action. Through these collective efforts, the committee cultivates a living, learning community that models responsible behavior on campus and beyond, preparing compassionate and resourceful citizens for the evolving world ahead.

• Parent Education

  Mission statement: The Parent Education Committee supports the continuous journey of learning, growth, and discovery that is at the heart of parenting and caregiving. Just as students are evolving, so are the adults who guide them, developing new skills, examining personal biases, and adapting to unexpected challenges. Parent Education at New Roads honors this shared path by creating welcoming spaces for families to learn from one another’s experiences, ask questions without judgment, and offer mutual support through the complexities of raising children in today’s world. Rather than offering one-size-fits-all solutions, the committee fosters connection and reflection, walking alongside families as they navigate the ever-changing landscape of parenting.

• Friends of Athletics

  Mission statement: The Friends of Athletics Committee is a committed group of parents and community members who support and enhance the athletic experience for all New Roads students. In alignment with the school’s mission to nurture whole, engaged individuals, the committee fosters school spirit, strengthens parent involvement, and promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, and student well-being through volunteer efforts, fundraising, and advocacy. By organizing community-building events and honoring traditions, FOA cultivates a culture of connection around athletics that brings together students, families, alumni, and the broader New Roads community.

   

  Parent volunteer opportunities include: 

  • Team communication parent: Serve as the main point of contact for your team by managing the WhatsApp group, sharing reminders and urgent updates, streamlining communication from coaches, and coordinating volunteers for opportunities such as sporting event photography and hosting team banquets.

• Friends of Visual Arts

  Mission statement: The Friends of Visual Arts Committee champions the creativity, skills, and talents of students across the New Roads community through dynamic and collaborative initiatives. FOVA works to raise the visibility of students’ artistic achievements both on campus and beyond, celebrating their talents throughout the year and supporting portfolio development and opportunities for continued study. A signature contribution of the committee is its vital role in Artapalooza, the annual spring showcase of student artwork. Parents actively volunteer during the event and contribute to creating an environment that is inspiring, well-organized, and enjoyable for the entire school community. Through these efforts and ongoing special projects FOVA fosters collaboration across different visual arts specialties to build teamwork and enthusiasm within the schools community.

   

  Parent volunteer opportunities include: 

  • Artapalooza support: Assist with event setup and creating an organized, lively, and dynamic environment for the annual spring student art showcase. 
  • Exhibit set-up: Help display student artwork and support the creation of portfolios for gallery-style exhibits.

• Friends of Theater/Dance

  Mission statement: The Friends of Theater and Dance Committee is a parent-led group that collaborates closely with the theater and dance departments to enhance the performing arts experience for students across all grade levels. FOT/D mobilizes volunteer support and assists the arts teams by hosting concessions, coordinating events, providing hair and make up for student actors, and collaborating with directors to source essential materials. The mission is to cultivate an inclusive and inspiring environment where students can explore their artistic voices, build confidence, and engage deeply with the performing arts, enriching their educational journey and strengthening the vibrant arts community at New Roads.

   

  Parent volunteer opportunities include: 

  • Concession coordination: Manage and run concessions during performances, helping to create a welcoming experience for audience members. 
  • Hair and makeup: Assist student actors with hair and makeup for performances, ensuring they are stage ready and confident. 
  • Costume support: Help with costume preparation, organization, and quick changes during performances. 
  • Event and performance support: Assist directors and staff during plays, musicals, and end of year events like Dance Night and Scene Night, ensuring smooth and successful productions. 

• Friends of Music

  Mission statement: Friends of Music at New Roads is a parent-led committee dedicated to supporting and celebrating the school’s vibrant K–12 music community. In collaboration with the Music Department, FOM helps create opportunities for students to explore and deepen their musical passions through on-campus concerts, off-campus performances, and connections to enriching programs such as summer intensives. By volunteering at events, helping to expand access to meaningful experiences, and supporting the creative needs of the program, FOM strives to ensure that all students have the tools, encouragement, and inspiration to discover and develop their unique musical voice. Whether as a lifelong source of joy or a path toward a creative future. This work reflects New Roads’ commitment to nurturing curious, confident, and expressive learners who engage the world with purpose.

   

  Parent volunteer opportunities include: 

  • Performance support: Assist musical directors and student musicians during concerts and other performances, helping to create an electrifying and professional experience for both performers and audiences.  
  • Resource board management: Contribute to the collection of student opportunities outside of school

• Friends of Speech & Debate 

  Mission statement: The Friends of Speech and Debate Committee supports one of New Roads’ most dynamic and intellectually engaging programs by fostering a strong partnership between families and the Speech and Debate team. In collaboration with faculty, this parent-led committee helps build a well-organized and inclusive support system that allows students to fully participate in and thrive within the Speech and Debate experience. Through parent communication, tournament-day logistics, volunteer coordination, and general support, FOS&D ensures students and families are informed, connected, and equipped to navigate the demands of the season. By easing the logistical load on faculty and creating a collaborative spirit among families, the committee helps sustain the excellence, access, and energy that define this celebrated program.

   

  Parent volunteer opportunities include: 

  • Team communication support: Serve as the main point of contact between division-specific Speech and Debate team coaches and parents, managing tournament-day communications, coordinating parent judging volunteers, and offering encouragement and support to students.
