Local Educators Explore New Roads’ Educational Model

New Roads hosted a group of educators and administrators from Larchmont Charter School this week as they explored different models of education as part of a professional development opportunity. The visitors were looking for examples of student engagement - what techniques and tools are teachers using to engage students in their learning. This year, they are focusing on instructional practices and elements related to positive community and classroom culture, student voice, choice, and agency, and real-world relevance of instruction. As they walked around campus and saw the engagement among the students and faculty, they expressed appreciation for the opportunity to learn from the day. Zahir Robb (Director of Admissions), who accompanied the tour, shared, "Sometimes it is easy to take the vibrancy of a New Roads education for granted. But as I saw our guests light up as they witnessed the back-and-forth conversations within Jason's philosophy class, the engagement with the content covered in Kevin's history class, or the fun and meaningful exercise to open Diana's pre-algebra course, I remembered how unique it is to be surrounded by this environment each and every day."

We look forward to ongoing partnerships with other educational institutions as we expand our work beyond the walls of New Roads and into the larger school community.
