Elementary School
Supply List & Summer Reading

The New Roads Elementary School community champions the joy of reading and encourages all students to read at least two books over the summer. Our students have a wide range of reading skill levels and interests. Our teachers have put together a list of recommended and required books for parents and students to choose from below. After your child finishes a book, they are encouraged to write a review of the book, noting what they liked, did not like, and a short summary of the story. They will be asked to bring this in during the first week of school and give this to the teacher who recommended the book. We will be having brief discussions, or book clubs, early in the year. If your child would like to read something outside of the recommended reading on this list, they are welcome to.

Happy reading.

Supply List 25-26

List of 7 items.

  • All Grades

Please label everything possible, especially clothing items! Please pack ample snacks and lunch. Please have students leave toys, stuffed animals, electronics and cell phones at home.

    Suggested:
All students need to bring a healthy snack each day.
Please pack ample snacks and lunches, and refrain from items with sugar.

Any medications need to be given to the office and not left for children to take themselves, including inhalers, sunscreen, and cough drops. In addition, the prescription form needs to be filled out and returned to Inez Collins, Divisional Manager K-5 by August 22.

Please have students leave toys, stuffed animals, electronics, and cell phones at home. While cell phones are highly discouraged at the elementary school, if your family chooses to send your child with a phone, please contact Mark Vickers-Willis, K-8 Director, to discuss.

We encourage students to pack their own backpack with homework and needed items (such as instruments and snacks) before going to bed. We also suggest that, if possible, you assist your child in packing their snacks and lunch. These habits and routines support healthy conversations around food choices, as well as provide organizational and time management skill-building.
