7th grade Science students took the top prize at the recent Generation Earth Science Grand Prix competition held at the Disney Synergy Lab in Burbank. Generation Earth, an arm of Tree People, challenges middle and high school students throughout Los Angeles County to educate their peers about water pollution and how to take actions to protect the watershed.
Our students installed eight rain barrels throughout our campus to conserve water and prevent flooding. Some students teamed up with the City of Santa Monica to secure free rain barrels. Others oversaw the installation of a gutter extension. Others worked with a graffiti artist to create storm drain art, reminding us that trash left on the ground ends up in the ocean. As part of their Science Grand Prix prize, students won a trip to the LA County Office of Educations’ Marine Science Floating Laboratory.
