Getting Down to Business: Retired NBC Universal/Comcast Executive Leads High School Business Class

After a highly successful career as a “C-Suite” senior executive (Chief Operating Officer of Comcast Entertainment Group, Universal Cable Productions, and Wilshire Studios), New Roads alumni parent Steve Dolcemaschio is devoting his retirement to helping young people understand the fundamentals of business. Steve, whose son Blaise graduated from New Roads in 2012, believes that all high school graduates should have an understanding of the fundamental principles of business.

Start-Up Business is a nine part course including Finance & Economics, Marketing, Human Resources, Legal, Production, Facilities Management, Technology, Business Development, and Entrepreneurship. It’s been an instant hit with upper school students. The class is filled to capacity and has a waitlist. Steve is helping his students understand the basic elements of business and experience the entrepreneurial process. Class topics explore personal budgeting, corporate business planning, brands, creating ads, interviewing, contract law, real estate leasing and how to launch an entrepreneurial start-up.

Steve shares his inspiration behind Start-Up Business, “I was able to take a finance class in high school, which allowed me to discover how much I liked the world of business. This led to my attending the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a very fulfilling career.” Steve is also sharing his business acumen through his work with Junior Achievement of Southern California which focus on financial literacy, workplace preparedness, and entrepreneurship with elementary, middle and high school students. Steve is also a trustee at Oberlin College.
