Compton Robotics Club Founders Ben Indeglia and Danny Figueroa Featured on KTLA

Three years ago, 12th grader Ben Indeglia and upper school math teacher Danny Figueroa joined forces to bring a robotics program to Compton public schools. Thanks to their commitment, innovation and enthusiasm – and countless Saturdays spent doing everything from teacher training, computer maintenance to unpacking LEGO robotics kits – the Compton Robotics Club has quickly become pioneering program that is changing hundreds of lives and helping to develop a 21st century workforce.

In KTLA’s coverage of Ben’s and Danny’s work, Ben talks about his inspiration to create the Compton Robotics Club, “I have a strong belief in personal action rather than lamenting about problems in society, of actually doing something to try to fix it. I had a problem with the lack of representation of women and minorities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Danny says, “We helped start a revolution within the Compton Unified School District.”

KTLA reporter Kacey Montoya commended New Roads as a unique and inspiring school, where students and teachers are “taught to use skills and expertise to impact society.” Check out KTLA’s coverage.
