Senior Liam Waldman Awarded a Prestigious QuestBridge Scholarship

Congratulations to Senior Liam Waldman, who has been awarded a highly prestigious QuestBridge Scholarship. Liam was one of just 1674 students selected from over 16,500 applicants nationwide for this honor, which includes a full 4-year scholarship to Wesleyan University. Liam has impressed our community through his roles as a researcher, a debater, a mentor, an intellectual, and most importantly, as an agent of social change.

In 10th grade, Liam’s interests and strengths within social sciences and politics inspired an Independent Study Project (ISP) focused on housing inequality in the city of Los Angeles.  Inspired by his daily commute from Glendale to Santa Monica, Liam’s research centered on urban planning, housing policy, and civic engagement.  The ISP allowed him to explore a specific academic area of interest while empowering him to pursue independent and interdisciplinary learning.  The ISP experience transformed Liam into a scholar.  He is currently completing his third ISP.

Within our Speech and Debate program, Liam is a mentor, coach and Captain of the Lincoln-Douglas Team. He tutors other students and works with them on their writing and research.  Debate has given Liam the opportunity to mentor middle school students in hopes of continuing to strengthen the team.

Director of College Counseling Alejandra Bonilla says, “Liam’s desire to put his knowledge into action, and to impact our world for the better is quite admirable.  He is guided by his consciousness, social justice orientation, and care for others.  I know in the future he will make an impact in our local community and will continue to work for the common good.”
