New Roads Sports Teams Are Back in Action

The Upper School Boys and Girls Varsity Tennis teams had successful returns to interscholastic competition. Both squads traveled to UCLA to play their Coastal League rivals Geffen Academy on May 13.

The Middle School Girls Basketball team seized the opportunity to make a statement in their first game in over 15 months, defeating Pacific Basin League rival Geffen Academy 14-7 on May 18. Eighth-grade team leader Rahne O'Leary highlighted the "team chemistry" as being a key factor, as all 13 members of the squad were present and ready to return to action.

And finally, the Boys Track & Field team won the 2021 Coastal League Championship at the May 22 league finals at Malibu High. 12th grader Gus Lopez dominated the meet, earning two individual berths (100 and 200 meter run) into the CIF-Southern Section preliminary meet, as well as two more as a member of a relay team. Gus was honored as the League MVP for his incredible efforts. Also qualifying for the CIF prelims in individual events and as relay team members were 11th graders Colin Levine (high jump) and Solomon Gibbs (300 hurdles). Sidd Shendrikar, Albert Luthje, and Mateo Lombard will also travel to Carpinteria on Saturday, June 5, to compete in the prelims as relay team members.
