2016 Alumna Amanda Gorman Performs at Biden's Inauguration

On Wednesday, January 20, Class of 2016 alumna, Amanda Gorman, took the national stage with poise to perform her original poem, “The Hill We Climb,” at the inauguration. And the entire New Roads community was beaming. Amanda attended New Roads School from K-12, and her mentors include Elementary School Writing Specialist Shelly Fredman and Upper School English teacher Alexandra Padilla, who describes Amanda as having an “energy that is unstoppable.” Amanda’s unforgettable performance led to a copious amount of press coverage for both her and New Roads, including Time Magazine, Los Angeles TimesLos Angeles Daily NewsThe Lily (by the Washington Post), PBSSky Atlantic, and many others.
