Mimi Haddon Featured at the Annenberg Space for Photography

Conceptual Clothing teacher Mimi Haddon was featured in the Photoville LA festival as part of the Annenberg Space for Photography’s ten-year anniversary. Her colorful “Palace Wild” exhibit first began to take shape over ten years ago when Mimi met the owner of Palace Costume, a vintage costume rental house for the entertainment industry, and was granted unprecedented access to photograph the space and its artifacts. Piling clothes onto models and dancers from the Heidi Duckler Dance company, Mimi wanted to play with the idea of what would happen if the clothes were to self-assemble after closing time: What kind of creatures would they make? How would they come alive?

It’s been over a year since the Photoville event took place and Mimi’s photographs are still displayed across the Century Park building. She says that this is a “beautiful way to see these creatures,” and that the whole experience has been “impactful and inspiring.” While she originally intended to publish “Palace Wild” as a book, the project has evolved and expanded to include other types of media, including performance art. She observes, “It’s a little reminder to not stop at the first level, to listen to what the message is and to always dig deeper.”
