Class of ’12 Alum and NRS Teacher “Give Back” at Independent School Alliance

Class of 2012 alum Melissa Castro and Speech and Debate teacher Akunna Uka were excited to serve at the Independent School Alliance Summer Orientation Program. The Independent School Alliance’s mission is to assist diverse underrepresented students in the process of applying to independent schools and provide support throughout their secondary school careers. At the orientation, Akunna taught humanities while Melissa offered operations support. In reflecting on her time at New Roads and the impact it has had on her life, Melissa explained that that she has chosen to work with the Independent School Alliance to give back to other students of color to help them access a transformative education.
