12th Grader Sanna Legan featured on ABC7 after being named Presidential Scholar in the Arts

ABC7 featured 12th grader Sanna Legan as part of their Cool Kid series after Sanna was recognized as a 2018 Presidential Scholar in the Arts. This recognition is presented on behalf of the President of the United States and is given to up to 161 graduating high school seniors in our country. Sanna is one of only 20, chosen in a rigorous process from 8,000 applicants, to be U.S. Presidential Scholars in the Arts. Students are selected on the basis of academic and artistic excellence, leadership qualities, and community service. Sanna will present her work at the John F. Kennedy Performing Arts Center in Washington, D.C.

Sanna's entire portfolio of contemporary mixed media pieces based on themes of social justice was considered for this award. Sanna explains why she has chosen to use her art to address issues related to social justice. "Art is the strongest form of expression. The role and duty of an artist is to try to better the world through their art."
