At New Roads Upper School students discover a learning environment that brims with intellectual depth and creative vitality. During their high school years, our students build a foundation for their futures by engaging in meaningful scholarship and developing a well-defined moral compass. Through a course of study that combines challenge with encouragement, our students learn to think critically, to collaborate, and to challenge assumptions respectfully. At New Roads, class discussions spill out of the classroom into the courtyard, humming with creative energy and community spirit.
Our college-preparatory curriculum prepares students for a life of learning. While students are required to take core courses that build their academic skills across disciplines, a devoted/talented faculty guides them to create paths of study that reflect their interests and inclinations. Through a vast program of creative and academic electives, students explore areas of curiosity that inspire their progress and help them find their place in the world.
Throughout this educational journey, the New Roads Statement of Philosophy provides a guide. It reminds students that they must behave responsibly and honorably as individuals, and teachers that they should continue to learn so they can perceive the young accurately and treat them wisely. Our graduates know that New Roads has nurtured their development and helped them become competent people of conscience who can contribute ethically to their communities and their families.
