Senior Andreas Barberia's Short Film to Show at National Film Festivals

12th grader Andreas Barberia is gaining recognition for his animated short film, Blobby and The Tack. The film was recently accepted to the Anchorage International Film Festival and the Covellite Film Festival in Montana, two festivals that feature both student and professional work.

A film student at New Roads, Andreas created the short film with hand-drawn traditional animation techniques. "I love the idea of morphing," says Andreas. "I wanted to play with my imagination."

Andreas hopes to pursue his passion for animation in college. "It feels like all my hard work was worth it in the end, and it motivates me to keep doing more work in the future." He lends his appreciation to film teacher Michelle Bernstein, who supported the project and encouraged Andreas to submit the film to festivals.

Andreas, who estimates he logged thirty hours in producing the short film, has some advice for younger students interested in making films. "Stay motivated. Let the process be natural, but keep it fun. Sometimes your vision won't work out in the end, but it's alright!"
