9th Grader Brandon Joseph Receives the Debra of America Spirit Award

9th grader Brandon Joseph was named a recipient of the Debra of America Spirit Award for his advocacy work on behalf of those living with Epidermolysis Bullosa. At the award ceremony, Debra acknowledged Brandon’s powerful testimony from an FDA patient-focused drug development panel, in which he and others advocated for expedited Epidermolysis Bullosa treatments.

EB is a painful and debilitating disorder that causes the skin to tear and blister at a slight touch and requires daily bandaging of wounds. The condition can also affect internal organs. By sharing their personal struggles with EB, Brandon and the other patients and family members were able to help the FDA better understand the daily physical and mental challenges of the disease and advance treatment approvals.
