New Roads School was established in 1995 under the leadership of Dr. Paul F. Cummins, Founder, President and CEO of the Coalition for Engaged Education (formerly the New Visions Foundation), and Dr. David Bryan, who was the first Head of New Roads School.
Dr. Paul F. Cummins
Paul Cummins co-founded Crossroads School in 1971, prior to creating the New Visions Foundation whose first endeavor was creating New Roads School. In addition to launching independent and charter schools, Dr. Cummins has implemented several innovative programs to help vulnerable children. He also is a published poet and author of several books on education.
Dr. Cummins received his bachelor of arts from Stanford University, his MAT from Harvard, and his doctorate from the University of Southern California. He has served as a trustee on over 20 boards.
Dr. David Bryan
David Bryan was founding Head of New Roads School from 1995 – 2013. Dr. Bryan currently teaches at UC Santa Cruz, provides consulting expertise to multiple Santa Cruz independent and charter schools, and is involved with companies developing effective tools for online education. His publications include articles on law, language, mass media, movement and health and have appeared in such journals as The Buffalo Law Review, The Native American Law Review, Revision and others.
Dr. Bryan attended the State University of New York at Stony Brook (BA, 1974), the University of California at Los Angeles (MS, 1978), and the State University of New York at Buffalo (JD, 1982, Ph.D., 1985).
