Middle School Director

New Roads School is an innovative, fully-accredited K-12 independent school serving more than 650 students on campuses in West Los Angeles (grades K–5) and Santa Monica (grades 6-12), California. Position Summary:
The Middle School Director (MSD) oversees all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the Middle School campus, serving 175 students in 6th – 8th grades. Reporting to the Head of School, the MSD is the instructional leader at the middle school spending the majority of his/her time supporting and providing supervision to faculty and staff, while developing a strong and positive student culture. The MSD works collaboratively with the Elementary and High School Directors to ensure philosophical and programmatic alignment across the entire school, K-12. The MSD serves as the student behavior manager in the school, counseling students and meting out disciplinary consequences in line with the school handbook. The MSD works closely with the Parent Association, specifically working with the middle school parent representative(s), attending meetings periodically, and guiding this group to support the school. The MSD works to connect parents closely with the school, ensuring they feel welcome.

Ideal candidates will have significant experience and success in school leadership, preferably at the middle school level, and will demonstrate a clear understanding of project based, constructivist teaching and learning. Candidates should have a clear vision for their role as an instructional leader and a strong understanding of what it means to support teachers for instructional improvement.
