about us
history

New Roads School is a fully accredited K – 12 college-preparatory independent educational community set on two campuses in Los Angeles and Santa Monica, California with easy access to the scenic and cultural richness of Los Angeles County. Students travel to school via school bus, public bus and car pools.

New Roads was established in 1995 by Dr. Paul F. Cummins, Founder and CEO of New Visions Foundation, and Dr. David Bryan, Founding Head and President of the School, as a model for education in an ethnically, racially, culturally, and socio-economically diverse community. New Roads began as a middle school program with 70 students and has grown in both directions each year thereafter. We now serve over 650 students representing the kaleidoscope of communities that make up Los Angeles. Unique among independent schools, New Roads School provides need-based financial assistance to more than 50% of our families. Over the past 19 years, New Roads has dedicated approximately $72 million to financial aid.

Walter Landberg became Head of School in July 2013.  As we enter our nineteenth year, we look back with pride at our growth and accomplishments, but more importantly, we look forward to the next phase of our growth with renewed commitment to our founding ideals.
