At New Roads School we view participation in athletics as a vital extension of classroom learning that encourages students to mature physically, emotionally, and socially. Consistent participation in athletics provides students the opportunity to learn new skills, apply them in an array of situations, and develop the kind of teamwork and camaraderie that contribute to good citizenship within our school community and in the wider world.
The New Roads Athletic Program is competitive while focusing on skill development and positive athletic experiences. The Athletic Department fully supports the mission of New Roads School, inspiring students to be self-motivated and joyful participants in their physical education, to strive for excellence, and to develop such personal growth attributes as loyalty, integrity, responsibility, healthy competition, and commitment. At the elementary and middle school levels, everyone who wishes to join an athletic team may do so regardless of prior experience or skill level. The Elementary School participates in the Sky League and the Middle School competes in the Pacific Basin League. At the high school level we do have try-outs for some sports but because of our belief in the benefits of competitive athletics for all students, students whose abilities do not place them on a varsity team are encouraged to participate at the junior varsity level. Currently, the High School is a member of the Harbor League but beginning with the academic year 2010-11, we will be joining the Coastal League.
